General information
IceCube-260805A is a track-like high-energy neutrino candidate detected by IceCube on 2026-08-05 14:01:39.70 UT in the Bronze alert stream. The refined position is RA 60.47 deg, Dec 26.07 deg J2000, with an estimated atmospheric-background false alarm rate of 1.449 events per year.
Wavelength coverage
- Neutrino: IceCube detected the alert event and later searched for additional track-like muon neutrino events in 1000 s and 2 day windows, finding none beyond the alert event.
- Optical: ZTF observed the localization in g and r bands starting 20.4 hours after the event, covering 65.4% of the reported localization to a typical depth of 21.0 mag, and found one candidate, ZTF26aaskzvj / AT 2026jrc, at g=20.937 +/- 0.182 mag.
- Gamma-ray: One Fermi FL16Y catalog source, FL16Y J0402.5+2615, is reported inside the 90% uncertainty region, 0.254 deg from the best-fit neutrino position.
No observations are mentioned in X-ray, ultraviolet, infrared, radio, gravitational waves, or cosmic rays.
Lightcurve and spectrum
- ZTF26aaskzvj / AT 2026jrc was first detected on 2026-04-15.
- The transient was only marginally detected with forced photometry at the neutrino arrival time.
- The source appears to have peaked about 100 days before the ZTF circular at M<-18 in r band and had faded to M=-15.4 as of the previous week.
- IceCube found zero additional track-like events in the 1000 s window and reported p-value 1.00.
- IceCube also found no significant excess in the 2 day window and reported p-value 1.00.
- IceCube reports sensitivity values for an E^-2.5 neutrino spectrum of 1.4e-01 GeV cm^-2 in 1000 s and 1.7e-01 GeV cm^-2 in 2 days, evaluated as E^2 dN/dE at 1 TeV.
- For the 1000 s search, 90% of detectable events from a source at this declination with an E^-2.5 spectrum would have energies between about 2e+02 GeV and 7e+04 GeV.
Redshift
ZTF reports that ZTF26aaskzvj / AT 2026jrc is associated with a nearby galaxy in NED at z=0.0192, corresponding to about 85 Mpc.
