Data sources
- GCN Circulars and related notices are sourced from NASA’s GCN service.
- Event groupings (e.g., GRB/EP identifiers) are derived from information in the circular text and alert metadata.
AI summaries and scores
For each event, the site can generate a Summary and a Score using the OpenAI API.
What affects the score?
Scores are a heuristic derived from what is explicitly stated in the circulars. Common factors include:
- Number of GCN circulars associated with an event, more circulars increase the score
- Cross-instrument confirmation and strength of the reported detections
- Special/atypical characteristics compared to typical events of the same class
- Multi-wavelength coverage increases the score
- Clear multi-messenger associations (EM + neutrino/GW), which typically drives high score
- Measured redshift increases the score
- Tests/retractions/low-significance alerts, which are penalized
AI output may contain errors, always consult the original circulars.
